Route 66 was called America's “Mother Road”. It traveled from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending at Santa Monica, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles.
Although pieces of it still exist today as modern roads, much has been abandoned and let to return to nature as it can or converted into public area or recreation areas. The US66 was officially removed from the United States Highway System in June 1985, after it had been replaced in its entirety by segments of the Interstate Highway System. Several remaining portions of the road that passed through Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico, and Arizona have been designated a National Scenic Byway of the name "Historic Route 66", which is returning to some maps.
This truck sits in a field alongside Interstate 40 that runs through The Petrified Forest in Arizona.
It and several old-style telephone poles with glass insulators with no wire on them have been left, along with a few small plaques, as a reminder to a much earlier time.
Engaging your website visitors with local stories or historical items is a great method of getting sign-ups to your newsletter and repeat website traffic. People do want to know about the town they may call home, even if they call it that already. How often have you come upon a local event that you had no idea was ongoing? Remember how pleasantly surprised you were when that happened? You can give your website visitors that same sort of feeling.
Thoughts of Route 66 trigger thoughts of two-lane roads, big cars, Happy Days. Travel happened at a much slower pace and was a more personal experience. The road wound its way through the “Real America” and small-town business' reveled in the opportunities presented.
Back then, seeing real estate as a local business was easy, as there really were no other options. Today we have apps and phones and video and maps and ….you get the idea. There are a million ways to stray from the base truth that None of these things replace a real estate agent, nor can they. An agent creates a path to a home and your website content can be the path to a buyer. Tell your website visitors about your market and they will come.
